Ryan Mather, MD

Senior Psychiatrist, Board Certified Adult and Child Psychiatrist

Bio

Dr. Ryan J. Mather is a board-certified psychiatrist extensively trained at the top hospitals and training programs in the country to provide empathic and patient-centered care for children through adulthood.

Dr. Mather graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois, before finishing his adult psychiatry residency at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City. Most recently, he completed a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship from NewYork-Presbyterian at Columbia and Cornell, earning additional expertise working with children and families.

Dr. Mather’s Philosophy:

While there are numerous benefits to the increased focus on mental health, there is often a lot of noise with little focus on meaning and nuance.

Depression and anxiety are not just descriptions of mood but often a chemical imbalance that affects the way the individual processes information and ultimately interact with the world around them. It can lead to intense and self-critical thoughts, creating thought loops that are extremely difficult to escape without the help of professional treatment.

While Dr. Mather’s background is strongly based in medicine, he believes that the most durable gains are made through a trusting, therapeutic relationship, and medications should be used be used minimally as tools to aid in achieving those lasting changes.

He also believes in importance of sleep, exercise, mediation, socialization, creative outlets and overall wellness, and aims to integrate them into treatment.

The extensive training Dr. Mather has received in both therapy and psychopharmacology has provided him with the ability to develop unique and comprehensive treatment strategies tailored to each individual’s specific needs.

Dr. Mather is an Adult ADHD Psychiatrist as well as a Child ADHD Psychiatrist, also specializing in anxiety treatment and depression treatment. See all our specializations here.
